KOGO Participates in the Annual East County Toy and Food Drive



The community showed their support during the 35th Annual East Coast Toy and Food Drive
KOGO participated in the 35th Annual East County Toy and Food Drive, sponsored by the Salvation Army, that took place during November and December. People were asked to drop off any new toy to any of the East County fire stations, as well as monetary and food donations. On December 11th, KOGO was on hand for the toy parade, held in the Target parking lot in El Cajon. Donations of large toys or toy collections were also brought to this event.

98.1 Smooth FM was on location for the Salvation Army's Toy Drive, which was held at the Walmart on Clairemont Mesa Blvd on December 17th. People were asked to donate new, unwrapped toys.

From noon to 2pm, there was a special bell ringing event by Bill Gibbs, who first rang the bell for the Salvation Army with his Kiwanis club in 1949 and has been ringing it ever since.

Univision Radio Makes Strides Against Breast Cancer



Univision Radio took part in a good cause with "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk in Balboa Park

KLNV-FM La Nueva 106.5 and KLQV-FM Recuerdo 102.9 took part in the annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” in Balboa Park on October 15th. Univision Radio personalities and staff participated in and raised funds for the race that has raised more than $400 million nationally to fund breakthrough breast cancer research and helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back.

Recuerdo 102.9 and La Nueva 106.5 were on site for the event and also ran air campaigns to invite listeners to donate and participate in this instrumental event.

For the past four years, KLNV-FM's midday personality Monica "La Chula" Hernandez, has been giving back to her listeners by organizing a series of bi-monthly "Cafecitos" workshops and community events aimed at bettering the lives of San Diego's Hispanic community members.

The free events, traditionally organized at the Jacobs Center at 404 Euclid Avenue in San Diego, have been focused on informing and empowering attendees about troubling health and social issues that continue to grow in the Hispanic Community.

"Cafecitos" features special guests, professionals and experts in a number of fields, including doctors, nutritionists and life coaches.

Univision Radio Participate in the 22nd Annual “Kids News Day"



Members of Univision Radio's street team helped sell newspapers for Kids NewsDay to benefit Rady Children's Hospital

On October 25th, street teams for Recuerdo 102.9 FM and La Nueva 106.5 FM participated in the 22nd annual “Kids News Day” selling a special $1 edition of the San Diego Union-Tribune on the streets throughout San Diego County.  As in years past, the front section of the paper, Union-Tribune Kids' NewsDay, was filled with stories about Rady Children's Hospital patients and the unique care they receive at the hospital.  All proceeds from the paper benefit Rady Children's Hospital.

Over $100,000 was raised for patients and families.

Univision Radio Takes Part in the Annual Oaxaca Festival "Guelaguetza"



Guelaguetza aimed at helping to retain the cultural identity of the indigenous Mexican population

On Sunday, September 25th, Univision Radio's Recuerdo 102.9 FM and La Nueva 106.5 FM participated in the 16th annual “Guelaguetza,” a Oaxacan cultural and folkloric festival aimed at helping to retain the cultural identity of the indigenous Mexican population as well as helping to raise funds for community projects and student organizations. "Guelaguetza" was held at Cal State San Marcos.

The event is the largest Indigenous Oaxacan family festival in San Diego County.

98.1 Smooth FM Participated in the San Diego Blood Bank's Charger Blood Drive



The San Diego Blood Bank's Annual Chargers Blood Drive

98.1 Smooth FM was on hand for the San Diego Blood Bank's Annual Charger Blood Drive on November 30th at the Town and Country Convention Center in Mission Valley.

Over the past 31 years, the Chargers Blood Drive has collected more than 50,000 pints of blood. That figure includes one remarkable day back in 1993 when the San Diego Blood Bank gained entry into the famed Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest single-day, single-location blood drive, with 1,853 pints collected.

Listeners came out to donate blood

KSON partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank for the Winter Blood Drive.The blood drive took place on January 5th at the Grossmont Center parking lot. The first 100 donors were given a free lift ticket for Mt. Baldy. The event was presented by Barona Resort & Casino.
