Radio Latina and First 5 San Diego held the 8th Annual College Expo at Southwestern College on April 17th. The college expo was a half-day event, offering workshops to aid and advise economically disadvantaged families with first-generation college-bound children. The sessions focus on how to prepare for college, how to apply, how to fund a secondary education, and how parents can support and encourage their kids to achieve these goals. Over 50 colleges and universities participated. College Expo 2010 was promoted by Radio Latina and Azteca America SD 15 TV and attracted nearly 1000 attendees of all ages. Radio Latina distributed First 5 materials throughout the event.

On Sunday, April 4, Radio Latina sponsored San Diego County’s largest Easter Egg Hunt in Oceanside. Listeners were invited to attend the event and participate in the hunt. They received informational materials courtesy of the First 5 Commission of San Diego. Prizes included Radio Latina T-Shirts, stickers and Easter baskets. Kids of all ages had a great time as 50,000 eggs and prizes were distributed. Event organizers estimate that over 1,000 families attended. Everyone had a wonderful day with Radio Latina and First 5 San Diego.

On Thursday, February 11th, Radio Latina hosted a private listener party at Anthology in San Diego. The event featured a live acoustic performance by Reyli Barba. As guests arrived, they were each given a ticket to participate in the raffle for a cabin in Big Bear. Immediately following Reyli’s performance, guests stayed to see who the big prize. Radio Latina also gave away a custom made wedding dress valued at $1,300. The winning couple got engaged right on stage! People in attendance stayed to dance to a lively mix of current hits and dance music provided by a DJ on stage.

Steve Sklenar is the new director of sales of Lincoln Financial Media’s San Diego radio cluster and will serve as an assistant vice-president for LFM. Sklenar rejoins Rick Jackson, senior vice-presient/general manager of LFM/San Diego, who also made the move back to LFM. In his new role, Sklenar will oversee sales operations of KBZT-FM, KIFM-FM, KSON-FM, and KSOQ-FM San Diego.

Miguel Monir Fernandez takes over as general manager of the Imagen Group, Inc./Radio Latina. In his new position, Fernandez will direct sales in the United States and coordinate sales in Tijuana. He also will serve as principal liaison between departments and overlook operations of the station’s daily activities.

KPRI welcomed Haley Jones as the new the program director of the station on February 1st. She most recently worked in Los Angeles at 100.3 The Sound, where she served as assistant program director and music director.

Also joining KPRI is Kelli Jodoin as sales assistant.

When the daily newspaper Diario San Diego wanted to differentiate itself from its weekly print competitor, the publisher turned to radio to carry its musical advertising message to readers and potential new customers.
