The X-Man & Cars Bring Out Donors

A fabulous collection of cars at Xavier’s Cruise for the Cause!

A fabulous collection of cars at Xavier’s Cruise for the Cause!

MAGIC 92.5 knows from experience that there’s nothing like cool cars to bring out caring people who want to see an end to childhood cancer.  The station presented Xavier The X-Man’s 7th Annual Cruise for the Cause Blood & Bone Marrow Drive Car Show on August 15th at Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista.  X-Man fans were treated to a free exhibit of classic cars, lowriders, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles. While enjoying the sights and sounds, many of those on hand took the time to donate blood to the American Red Cross and add their names to the National Bone Marrow registry.

Part of the proceeds from the event went to the Emilio Nares Foundation and Help a Mother Out organization.

The X-Man made sure there were plenty of options available for those who prefer two wheels to four

Smooth Failing: Newspapers To Sink Through 2010

From MediaPost Publications
By Eric Sass
September 17, 2009

The decline in newspaper ad revenues — now several years old — will continue for at least another year, according to Fitch Ratings, which issued the gloomy prediction in an overview of the media business released earlier this week.

According to Fitch’s “Credit Encylo-Media,” newspapers will not share in the recovery forecast for some other media in 2010, thanks to continuing downward trends in all three traditional mainstays of newspaper advertising: classifieds, local, and national ads. Read More…

Sales Are in Store for Those Who Use Spanish Language Radio

Furniture Heaven has been a fan of radio advertising for several years, using the airwaves to promote their unique niche in selling designer furniture that previously dressed model homes. As a result, they’ve always enjoyed a healthy San Diego customer base.  But when Bob Iafrate of San Diego Media Connections realized the store’s message – great quality at the fraction of the original price – was going unheard by the Spanish speaking population, he knew Furniture Heaven could do even better.

He convinced store owners to advertise on Spanish language Radio which provided a significant new audience that could appreciate Furniture Heaven’s great values. Teaming up with XLTN-FM/Imagen Group Inc., they hired Radio Latina’s morning team to do an ad-lib Radio campaign in the fall of 2008 that brought them significantly more customers and a 2009 EAR Award.

KIFM’S Gaslamp Festival Draws Impressive Crowd

A lively crowd showed up for great jazz music and San Diego sunshine

A lively crowd showed up for great jazz music and San Diego sunshine

A sell-out crowd turned up for KIFM’s Smooth Jazz 98.1 Gaslamp Festival on May 23rd.  And it’s safe to say no one was disappointed with the star-studded line-up of entertainers that included Boney James, Norman Brown, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Jessy J., Paul Brown, Marc Antroine, Eric Darius and more.

Funds raised through ticket sales benefited the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter Association, which helped organize the event that brought out the first capacity crowd in several years. The Gaslamp Quarter was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980. The association exists to protect and promote the historic district.

There was no shortage of entertainment or fans at KIFM's Smooth Jazz 98.1 Gaslamp Festival

Clear Channel Radio Stations Establish New PSA Policy

In an effort to better serve their San Diego listeners, the seven Clear Channel stations have launched a new Community Initiative which offers tax exempt, non-profit organizations free air time in the form of :15 and :30 second Public Service Announcements.

Since July, the web sites of Star 94.1, 101KGB, AM600 KOGO, New Country 957, Channel 933, Rock 1053 and XTRA Sports 1360 have offered information that defines the new policy for accepting public service announcements. There is also an on-line form for PSA copy that can be filled out and submitted electronically.

Clear Channel says the new initiative eases the process of submitting announcements to its stations and streamlines the process of reviewing them by station staff.  Those who have a message that could benefit the public will be happy to know that the stations have dedicated air time for the spots more than twelve times a day.

Clear Channel Stations Emergency Minded

San Diego’s Clear Channel  radio stations have declared September Emergency Preparedness Month, citing information that shows more than half of all Americans have no idea how to respond in the event of an emergency.
With the threat of wildfires heightened during the dry days of September, Clear Channel is airing announcements encouraging listeners to prepare themselves for natural disasters and medical emergencies, and backing that up with valuable information on its station web sites.  The simple questions posed on the Emergency page, “Could you locate a flashlight in your home on a moment’s notice?  Would the batteries work?” might be good indicators of how much listeners need to heed the information.  The sites also offer emergency phone numbers for local agencies as well as checklists and evacuation plans.
