CHARLESTON, SC — September 11, 2008: A new survey from American Media Services found that 64 percent of American adults listen to the radio every day, 73 percent are listening the same amount or more than they did five years ago, and 80 percent say they usually turn on the radio when they get in the car. Said AMS, “Each of these findings is remarkably consistent with the past three AMS polls over the past two years.”

Among the respondents who listen to Internet radio, 39 percent say they’ve listened in the last week, compared to 23 percent in a survey six months ago. Not many had heard about Chrysler’s announcement that some new models will have WiFi connections, but 37 percent said they’d be interested in having an Internet hookup in the car.

“These are significant findings that once again demonstrate how much Americans rely on the radio for music and entertainment,” said AMS Chairman Edward Seeger. “The survey also makes clear that Internet radio and continuous music over the Internet are becoming increasingly important to American audiences.”

The poll of 1,005 American adults was conducted from September 5-7.
